The Vice Chancellor of Yobe State University Damaturu, Prof. Mala Mohammed Daura stated that the essence of unionism in the university is for partnership and exchange of ideas between Union and the management to chart a way forward for the upliftment of staff welfare and not for confrontation between the parties.

The Vice Chancellor made the disclosure today while receiving the representative of the National President of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) on a courtesy call at his office after the just concluded ‘2022 YSU SSANU 4th Quedrieennial Congress/Executives Committee Election’.
While congratulating both the outgoing and incoming exco, the Prof. Daura commended SSANU members for a well coordinated hitch free conduct of the election.
The election which was conducted by Sule Biriri led Credentials Committee was supervised by the Zonal Vice President, Comr. Alh. Isa Audu of SSANU at the Ibrahim Geidam Hall of the University.
The election produced Comr. Ibrahim Liman with the total of 91 votes as the Chairman and Comr. Fatima Moh’d Ahmad with the same number of votes as Public Relations Officer (PRO).
Those returned unopposed include; Comr. Mohammed Kagu as Vice Chairman, Comr. Babagana Gaji, Secretary, Comr. Mohammed Abubakar, Assistant Secretary, and Comr. Hassana P. Zoaka asTreasurer.
Others are; Comr. Mohammed Hassan as Financial Secretary, Comr. Hauwa Godowoli, Women Leader, Comr. Babagana Modu Geidam, Trustee, while Comr. Nasiru Musa as Ex-Officio.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Mala Mohammed Daura wishes the outgoing EXCO led by the former Chairman, Comr. Mohammed Mala Waziri success in their future endeavours.
He then on behalf of the University Management prayed for the incoming EXCO a hitch free tenure.
In the meantime, the new-elect Chairman, Comr. Ibrahim Liman promised to carry everyone along and called for contructive criticism for the betterment of the union.
