Borno State Police Commissioner Abdu Umar has called for stronger collaboration and synergy between the Police and journalists in the fight against crimes in the state.
Abdu made the call when he paid a congratulatory visit to the newly elected State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and his executives at the Press Centre in Maiduguri on Wednesday.
He assured them of the command’s readiness to tell the world what is happening and promised never to work in isolation.
He said that the press had a significant role in peacebuilding and should shun any news that would cause disharmony in the state.
Abdul emphasized that journalists should do more balanced and investigative reportage, for the synergy to work effectively.

He thereafter seeks collaboration and synergy as well as urges them to be professional in reporting sensitive information.
He also pleaded with them to always manage information and avoid disseminating negative news that may likely destabilize the relative peace being enjoyed by the citizens in the state.
Responding, the NUJ Chairman Borno Council Comrade Dauda Iliya thanked the Commissioner for the visit, describing it as historic.
He promised to strengthen the already existing relationship between NUJ and the Nigeria Police to ensure peace is restored to Borno.
Comrade Dauda Iliya also commended the proactive policing strategy adopted by the Command to rid the state of criminal activities.
