Yobe Govt to Construct 4 Sesame Processing Factories

… Resuscitates 4 state owned industries

The Yobe state government has expressed its commitment to establish 4 sesame processing factories in four Local Government areas of the state.

The State Commissioner of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Mr. Barma Shattima, stated this to Daily Trust in Damaturu the state capital of Yobe.

He said the state government has awarded the contract of sesame processing plants for standard methods of packaging, exportation and marketing in Machina, Nguru, Potiskum and Damaturu Local Governments in a bid to boost internally generated revenue as well as providing job opportunities in the state.

According to him the state government has purchased the processing and packaging machines meant to encourage more people to cultivate sesame because the market has been brought to their doorsteps.

‘‘As you know, sesame is being cultivated in Yobe more than any state in Nigeria and people are exporting it to foreign countries via sea because we don’t have processing plants here. Therefore providing these factories will encourage farmers to do more and provide jobs for our teeming youths

‘‘Buni’s administration has already awarded the contract of these processing factories also government has purchased the required machines to kick off the processing work, as time goes on government will require the interventions of private sectors through collaboration or privatization so as to move the companies forward to achieve yield result’’ he said

Responding to the 7 industries owned by the state government, the commissioner said 4 of the industries have been revived in a bid to provide jobs opportunities in the state.

He said these industries are; Yusufari fertilizer Blending plant in Gujba, Polythene and Woven Sacks Company in Damaturu, Yobe Flour and Feed Mills in Potiskum and Sahel Aluminum Roofing sheet plant in Potiskum.

He added that the state government has taken the decision of resuscitating the industries to create more employment opportunities and improve the revenue of the state.

According to him, the decision was in a bid to industrialize the state to stimulate economic growth and create wealth through partnership with the private sector.
