The wife of Yobe state governor Hajiya Hafsat Mai Mala Buni on Saturday rehabilitated and empowered 30 drug addicts in the state.
Those rehabilitated are said to include 10 female and 20 Male who comes from the 17 local government areas of the state.
While speaking during the ceremony held at NUJ Secretariat in Damaturu the state capital, the first lady, said the empowerment program is part of the effort to keep the rehabilitees off drug abuse and to become self-reliance towards the development of the state.
Mrs. Mai Mala Buni who was represented by the Permanent Secretary state ministry of Agriculture and natural resources Dr. Musa Abba Kolere, said ‘‘the essence of this initiative is to empower rehabilitated drug users that are now willing to bounce back to their feet and contribute to themselves and development of the society’’.
‘‘The activity targeted about 30 participants, hoping to do more. So we are expecting that these beneficiaries would utilize what they have been given to development themselves’’ he said
Also speaking, the Executive Director of Sahel Initiative for Justice to Women and Children (SIJWAC) Barrister Altine Ibrahim, said Yobe’s first lady is collaborating with the National users for the betterment of the society.
